Ruth’s Race 5K Fun Run is an event to promote physical fitness, the sport of running, generate funds for a H.O.L.T. Scholarship in memory of the late Ruth Pridgeon, and raise awareness about pancreatic cancer.
Ruth (Coach Pridge as she was known by her athletes) was a dedicated teacher and coach for Holt Public Schools before Pancreatic Cancer took her from us when she was far too young to leave. When Coach Pridge passed, she left a gaping hole in the lives of her students, her athletes, her friends, and her family. Ruth’s Race is a tribute to Coach Pridge, to develop funds for a H.O.L.T. Scholarship that will assist deserving students achieve their goals at higher education institutions. The H.O.L.T. Scholarship Program is a donor-supported project to help qualifying students in the Holt Public School District receive an advanced education opportunity. |
Added this year is Robin's Run (1K and Diaper Dash), in the name of my mother Robin Malatinsky. Many of you may also know her from her work in Holt Public Schools as a substitute teacher and as an avid supporter of Holt Rams Athletics. What you may not know is that she has battled multiple sclerosis (MS) for over thirty years.
This debilitating and degenerative disease has had a major impact on her life and the life of her family. Once a gymnast, swimmer, and volleyball player - she choose to give up her profession as a physical education teacher in the Lansing School District to raise her three children - all three Holt Athletes and Graduates. The past several years have not been kind to Robin's body as MS mixed with the natural aging process have really started to take their toll. However, that has not deterred her spirit in life nor her support for Holt Athletics - you can still find her at Holt basketball, football, and track events cheering on her beloved Rams. A large portion of the proceeds from this event are donated to National MS Society in order to find a cure multiple sclerosis.
